Props and Announcements

• Wang Wei Da (external/internal door switch, light dimmer switch for XinChejian
  • trying to fix main door (wood is rotten)

Past events

• Roger on Hackerspace Convention
  • Good response from people, lots of people
  • Setting up organization, directions, welcoming people (assign people)
  • Presentations were of variable quality (some too long, some were irrelevant, some advertising, need focus on actionable learnings)
  • Some structure to the post-presentations discussions

• Roger on Makerfaire
  • QRCode / brochures / business cards / posters
  • Space was wasted for XinCheJian
  • Roger was there both days in afternoon, felt that the table could have been improved.
  • Robot arm, silicon molding projects took most space on the table (not projects representing the space, purely business)
  • On Sunday, first hackerspace recognized by a student in school (no cards, QR code)
  • Set expectations for users of the booth: need to integrate pitch of Xinchejian to their own project (mini-training)
  • Video reporting under Xinchejian

• Solidworks workshop
  • 7 people signup, 2 didn't come, 1 quit.
  • difficult workshop, people learning.

• Drone workshop nobody signed up, put off to this Saturday

Coming Week's Events and Workshops

• October:
  • 3D modeling (Solidworks, series 3 total)
  • Drone: put off to this Saturday morning (no signups yet) - affordable GPS enabled drone, foldable (3799 for member)
  • Robot arm - Series, will happen in the first weekend of November
  • Router with VPN (speaker traveling)

• Shanghai Barcamp: November 5th: VR focused
• November 12th: Follow up PCB workshop by Paul

• Enabling the individual members to call out individual safety first.
  • Call out safety to group, have a discussion, address objections.
  • if objections not addressed satisfactorily
  • Enforce safety workshop usage

• • Coca-Cola Holding (bottling) - Meeting originally scheduled on the 21st has been postponed
    • innovation session for 3d printing
    • four experts from XinCheJian have made the team: (Alex/Gambit/2d notice, Alec/Design thinking)
    • renting the space (4 hours), daytime (gravy): 25K for XinCheJian space + instructors fee

Goals:

• PreciousPlastic to be funded (they already have a budget they'd like to cover)
• XinCheJian to get additional funds either directly or through well-funded corporate workshops around projects like PreciousPlastic
• Always consider resources costs when offering Coca-Cola as XinCheJian (better to commit members first, offer what they already work on)

Rules:

• XinCheJian has well defined sponsorships levels and rules
• XinCheJian is a community, a platform: we don't own members projects so we can't act as gatekeepers
• Encouraged to include XinCheJian members proposals next to Xinchejian standard sponsorship options

Sponsorships alternatives

• Explore promote engineering from Coca-Cola (material science, basic research, drinks research)
• XinCheJian space logo proposal: standard 1 year -> 100K (sell the ability for the community to come up with cool projects like PreciousPlastic)
• Diana wants less of a marketing campaign and more an actual engineering solution that makes sense ecologically (taking into account energy use)
• For marketing, may be referred to the CMO (Chief Marketing Officer)

XinCheJian Kids Club

• make a decision internally before the end of November
• Teach more kids
  • ROGER gives Freda the template.
  • from 5 years old to 16 years old (afterschool)
  • Chris is to help with budgeting

Xinchejian Cleanup

• One centralized location for packages
• Set a date to make a seasonal cleanup
• Buy a big trash can
• Set simple rules parameters
  • floor, tables, chairs, workstations must be cleared
