Staff Meeting Notes 2015-06-02
Attendance: Roger, Sean, Kevin, Paul


NEW IDEAS

Hacker Scholarships (proposed by Roger)

  • Use Xinchejian funds
  • Provide Xinchejian mentorship
  • Project sponsored by the space
  • Project sizes could be: 3000-4000 RMB
  • Frequency: 1x quarter or 1x half-year
  • Funds would not be given in cash, only for purchasing stuff
  • Would be a call for projects
  • Would have a time definition - projects have to be completed
  • Projects are displayed at the space (for at least a period)
  • Ask them to document / wiki
  • ROGER would potentially manage it
  • ROGER to take the first cut at looking at it

DOOR PROBLEM

PROBLEM: The issue is people constantly knock on the door, and ask XCJ people to open the door.

VISITORS NOT OK outside of WEDNESDAY NIGHT

  • Can arrange a time ahead of time
  • Member has to chaperone AND BE THERE
  • KEY is to not disturb actual members

ENFORCEMENT

  • It is better to kick them out
  • IF they have a friend or connection, that person needs to be there or tell a staff member.

P2 awaiting OUR decision. LUCIO to have receptionist. LUCIO will allow members to walk through. Proposal: XINFAB will drop membership, needs compensation for loss.

Need membership system, ANDI to make simple paper subscription cards, with a stamp. We trust members to fill in their own cards. We can verify whether they paid or not. Problem: we are reception, walk-ins, members get bothered. Kevin suggests fixing these issue. Membership system.

"Employees should not be staff." Ask Amanda to be either Staff or SpaceManager. LIO to tell. Propose to rediscuss the space manager role and compensation.
