Space Maker CNC is a project to create and document the creation of a CNC usable for creating space grade components.
The goals for the project are:
- Minimum 0.1mm finished product accuracy
- Capable of milling aerospace grade aluminium (Al 7075)
- A work space of 500*500*300
- Total cost of BOM under 2,000 USD
Progress
- Base structure (complete)
- Base linear rails (complete)
Next steps
- X-axis ballscrew
- X-axis motor
- Gantry structure
BOM (so far)
Base
- 1400mm SBR20 linear rail
- 2 SBR20 linear rail bearings
- 2.4m 3090 aluminium extrusion
- 4 3060 aluminium extrusion angle brackets
- 0.4m 3030 aluminium extrusion
- 8 3030 aluminium extrusion angle brackets
- 4 adjustable feet
- 40 3030 aluminium extrusion nuts and bolts
- DM542 Microstep driver
- 23HS2430 Stepper motor (this motor should be swapped out for a less powerful one)
Gantry
- 2.86m 3090 aluminium extrusion
- 4 3030 aluminium extrusion angle brackets.
