This page is dedicated to the 2rmb "74LS164" shift register, if you are buying them, you might want to buy the "74HC595" instead as it has 3 states instead of 2, great for charlie-plexing since the 3rd state is disconnected!
LCD display for Serial to Parallel
Parallel connections suck up too many pins, in my case up to 11 pins which is too much for simple debugging or usage. so i went and built a 2wire interface for my LCD screen from sparkfun using this guide since i'm not smart enough to figure this stuff out on my own :)
